I think that maybe “the personal is political” is what politically fucked us all over.  No the idea in itself really, but the fact that all of these “anti-oppression politics” and “privilege call-outs” are seemingly originating from this feminist-consciousness-raising about-daily-life thing.   But I think the real issue is that people’s understanding of “the personal is political” is mistaken to mean instead “the political is personal,” or perhaps, most dangerously,  “we change the political by changing the personal.” Either way, it ends up where we have to “hold ourselves accountable” (read: qualify everything you think with a disclaimer about how it might be a product of you defective “privileged” consciousness) for the fact that yes obviously, who we are is greatly influenced by the structural position that we find ourselves in within class society.  Can we try moving away from this, and establish concrete material ways in which we can challenge social relations, rather than a lot of guilt conversations to make us feel more at ease but can never undo the social relations determined by class society? We can still fight from where we stand, but we must realize that ultimately we need don’t need to obsess over how we got there, how unfair it is that other people aren’t there, that, of course, we all ultimately need to leave the places where we stand to meet up in some terribly unknown place that we know nothing about and figure out where to go from there. the personal is indeed political, but we need most of all to figure out how to rid ourselves of the political/social relations that have colonized our lives, not by endlessly having the same guilt-cleansing privilege circle-jerks. spread anarchy/live communism or GTFO.
